IDK about you but I’ve been on a real downhill since ’97
I’m going to be such a grumpy old person. I can see it now…
Back in the day…if you wanted to type “S” you had to hit “7” four times.
Back in the day…you used to need 5 years of work experience to get an entry level job.
Back in the day…if you wanted to go anywhere, you would have to print out 18 pages from MapQuest and pray for no construction or missed turns. Or you had to get a real map and plot that bad boy by hand like a 17th century explorer.
Back in the day…you used to have to wait more than 2 days for a package to come.
Back in the day…your “screen” was an Etch-a-sketch, not an iPad.
Back in the day…to hang out with someone, you would first agree to meet somewhere – and without the ability to flake, you could pull the most savage ghost; the repercussions of such being near fatal. You had to assume they died. Mom and Dad said they’ll be home in thirty minutes? Forty-five minutes later…yep, dead.
Back in the day…you want to call a friend or a crush? 1.) extend the curly cue phone leash are far as humanly possible away from the next closest person in your family 2.) scream “GET OFF THE INTERNET, I’M ON THE PHONE.” 3.) Yell again if someone picked up the phone and started dialing 4.) Talk to the parents of whomever you’re calling 5.) Have a live conversation and really FEEL those silences.
Back in the day…instead of Netflix, you had Blockbuster and if you didn’t rewind the movie, you would probably be murdered or suffer some equally horrible fate.
Back in the day…your shopping pinnacle was SkyMall. A collection of art and pointless convenience that will never be replicated. Where else could you find this gold?
Back in the day…before google and Wikipedia, we had to comb through about 80 Encyclopedias (people got them as Wedding Gifts…that expensive) in pursuit of hopefully one, high level detail that you could spin five different ways to fill a paragraph. New discoveries in the world? Wait for the new edition. Oh, you need more information? Closest library or choose a new topic.
Back in the day…you had to wait alphabetically for your school to pop up on the news ticker to know if you had a snow day or not.
Back in the day…you didn’t take pictures of your breakfast. Or your cats. Or your face.
