A Newsletter for Readers Who Like to Blush in Public
I romantically think back to childhood when the only task required of us between the months of June and September was to read 10 paperback books. Social media has eroded my attention span, podcasts have given us a lazy way to consume content that was previously written, and honestly, free time is a precious commodity. I mean this with the most genuine seriousness when I say that millennials will always be chasing the high of the Scholastic Book Fair years until the day we die.
No one has time for War and Peace, but what everyone can carve our 30 minutes of their day to devour are spicy romance novels with classic tropes and unexpected elements. They provide worlds you can momentarily disappear into, all while using your brain for some utterly unique ways to describe all sorts of physical intimacy. One of my best friends Frances and her sister Dorothy take down dozens of books a week so they teamed up to publish a weekly newsletter about novels they’ve read that fall into a specific category. Past newsletters have discussed man on man hockey romances (a surprisingly very popular category), Draco/Hermione fan fiction, and all things Irish.
As someone with the attention span of a squirrel, sitting down to read more than a short story is low on my list of actionable activities. Nonetheless, this newsletter is always worth the read, if just to hear their sharp yet conversational commentary about the wild themes and sexual plot lines writers are stretching into full novels.
